Synopsis:

“April Papers” is a full-length documentary reconstructing the history of Al-Baath party in Syria, Jordan and Iraq. Inspired by the social nationalist and revolutionary movements in Europe, Al-Baath party saw the light in 1940s.

It was distinguished by its call for unity, freedom and socialism. In Syria, Al-Baath dominated the political scene quickly and, eventually, took over the power, whereas in Jordan it adapted a flexible and moderate policy which maintained the supreme power of the late King Hussein.

Al-Baath itinerary was more dramatic in Iraq, where the party underwent severe conflicts with the rest of the political movements and was involved in violent clashes with the Syrian wing which culminated in mutual conspiracies. Over forty years, Al-Baath was the only ruler of Iraq. Its adventurous foreign policy and wars led to its collapse following the American war against Saddam Hussein and his regime in 2003.
